So here's to 2012, another year! Have any of you got any New Year resolutions? I've decided mine is to be more positive.....I have a feeling I said the same last year, but never mind, I'll keep trying.
The year started with a very expensive vets bill. New Years day my equine friend decided to get a big fat leg and needed antibiotics and anti-inflammatories. I know she didn't mean it, but really why must she ALWAYS pick weekends or Bank Holidays. Then she refuses to eat the said very expensive medication, so she STILL has a bad leg, and no doubt the vet will be back, this time with injections!
Looks sweet and innocent doesn't she but I'm spending an hour at every feed time trying to persuade her to eat, not normally a problem, she has a reputation for being greedy if anything, but it's like having a very large hairy toddler. She spits her feed out and throws her bucket around the stable in disgust, she's even turning her back and standing with her head in the corner sulking. I hear myself saying " If you don't eat this you won't get any hay". It makes no difference, I can almost here her telling me "Fine, I won't have any hay then, I don't care".
I think I'm going to be doing lots of extra shifts, such is life.

Have you tried an Apple or a Carrot? I'm told they love these. Put the pill in a wee hole in an apple?
If I have to give Wesley, my cat, a pill I roll it in melted soft cheese.
Fools him everytime. :)
Oh I am so sorry your lovely horse is not feeling too well. I hope she starts to eat soon and that her leg heals. She's adorable. Take care

Bernard, if only it was a pill I could hide in an apple or carrot, unfortunately it is a large sachet of powder to mix in her feed. I've tried all her favourite treats. Her leg is improving slowly, the vet tells me to keep trying for now, then we may have to resort to gel, which costs much more! I'm breaking out in a sweat just thinking about it :-)
Thanks Kitty - she is eating, just not the medicine, and I'm too soft to let her go without hay for long.
Naughty hairy toddler!
Hope she starts being more sensible very soon and that her leg hurries up and improves.
May you both have a happy (and cheap) new year! :)
I know, I know.
I'm considering having a joint account with the vet and just having all my money paid straight in.

Aw! I hope she gets better soon.
