9/11

I can still recall where I was on this day ten years ago.
I was supposed to be on a study day, but was off sick with a chest infection. I remember  switching on the TV and seeing the north tower on fire. I think everyone thought it was a freak accident until that second plane appeared and hit. It was such a shocking, overwhelmingly horrific day, but I was somehow transfixed, weeping all through the coverage.
Ten years on, even though I didn't know a single soul involved, it still has a huge emotional effect on me when watching anything about it.
Some feel we should all move on and put it all behind us, and stop wallowing. I'm not sure what I think, sometimes I agree with that, but it was such a momentous event, it won't be that simple.
Then there are the family and friends of those victims, they will never put it behind them.

I remember I was at work and one of my work colleagues coming up to us saying "oh there's been a plane crash in New York" then an hour later, the BBC website just froze and then a little later the internet followed - because of the web traffic.

There was such a terrible feeling of foreboding - it was like the world had been turned upside down and we didn't at that point know exactly what was going on. Terrible times.

Take care

I was in bed too recovering from a hysterectomy. I put the TV on after an afternoon nap and thought it was some sort of Towering Inferno remake until I realised it was for real. I remembered thinking it was going to go down in the annals of history. It sure did.
